The region of Landsberg played an important role in German history both during and after the Nazi era. In 1924 in the detention facility of the Landsberg am Lech prison, Hitler wrote his book “Mein Kampf”. After the end of the Second World War, Nazi war criminals in the American occupation zone were detained and executed here. The Stl Ottilien monastery was converted from being a Wehrmacht military hospital into a hospital for liberated concentration camp prisoners. Many displaced persons found a temporary home in the Saarburg barracks.
